Ranchi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge alleged on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned visit to Kashmir was scrapped following an intelligence warning of a potential terror attack, a mere three days before the devastating Pahalgam attack on April 22, which tragically claimed 26 lives, primarily tourists.

Addressing the 'Samvidhan Bachao' rally in Ranchi, Kharge accused the Central government of neglecting to act upon this critical intelligence, as reported by PTI. "If the Prime Minister was alerted about a security threat and deemed it necessary to cancel his trip, why were security forces not bolstered to protect the lives of civilians and tourists in the region?" he questioned.

He further asserted that the Modi government acknowledged an "intelligence lapse" during a recent all-party meeting, raising serious questions about the absence of timely preventive measures despite prior warnings.

"The Centre must be held accountable for this oversight. If the threat was significant enough to prompt the PM to alter his itinerary, why was no additional deployment made to ensure the safety of lives?" he demanded.

Despite the sharp criticism, Kharge reiterated that the Congress party would fully support any robust action taken by the government against Pakistan, emphasizing, "For us, the nation transcends party affiliations, religious beliefs, and caste distinctions."
