Trent Alexander-Arnold confirmed on Monday that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season, bringing his remarkable 20-year association with the newly crowned English champions to a close. The announcement has been met with a wave of disappointment and even anger from many fans and Liverpool supporters.

"After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season. This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life," the England international shared in a heartfelt post on X.

Liverpool Football Club officially stated that the player would depart once his current contract expires on June 30, 2025. However, the news has not been well-received by a significant portion of the fanbase, with many taking to social media to express their outrage at the player, who is heavily rumored to be joining Spanish giants Real Madrid. 🇪🇸➡️🔴

"Words can’t explain how disappointed we are in you, you have betrayed your city and people for money," one X user commented directly under Alexander-Arnold's post. Another expressed their frustration, saying, "Leaving your childhood club for free is one of the worst things you can do. They could’ve got like £60m pure profit and you just dipped without giving them a penny." 😡

While the 26-year-old defender has not publicly revealed his next club, widespread media reports strongly suggest that he is on the verge of signing for Real Madrid.

Addressing the timing of his announcement, Alexander-Arnold said, "I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No 20," referring to Liverpool's historic 20th League title win this season. He further explained his decision, stating, "But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally." 🚶‍♂️

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s esteemed academy at the tender age of six and progressed through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in 2016. He has since made an impressive 352 appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring 23 goals and contributing significantly to the team's success in winning eight major trophies, including this season’s coveted Premier League title. In his farewell message, he said, "This club has been my whole life–my whole world-for 20 years. From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all." ❤️

Acknowledging the fans' potential disappointment, Trent concluded, "It has been an amazing season. It has been amazing to be part of it, and I just hope that everyone can maybe not dwell on this news for too long and be able to celebrate what the rest of the lads have done." 🙏
