🧨 News just came out that Russia is making a big new factory way out in Siberia to make a really strong explosive. This stuff is used in the big guns 💣 and other weapons they're using in the war against Ukraine 🇺🇦.

It seems like Russia 🇷🇺 has been able to drop more bombs than Ukraine, which has helped them in the war that's mostly fought with big guns 💣 and drones 🚁. But Russia has had to buy a lot of bombs from North Korea 🇰🇵, and the U.S. 🇺🇸 and Ukraine say Russia is running out of its bombs.

🧠 Experts who know about weapons say that this new explosive that Russia will make could help them shoot more and do more damage. This is happening at a time when Ukraine 🇺🇦 and the countries helping it are trying to make more weapons to stop Russia from moving forward. This news also comes as Russia has been hitting Ukraine hard with bombs 💣, missiles 🚀, and drones 🚁, and as the U.S. President, Donald Trump 🇺🇸, wants to make a deal to end the war, which started when Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 📅.

🏭 The papers show that they're building a new line in a factory owned by a Russian company that makes weapons, called Ya. M. Sverdlov Plant. This factory is a big maker of explosives for the military.

🔍 The reporters found strong clues that this new place will make RDX 💥, which is a really strong explosive that the Sverdlov Plant's factory, called Biysk Oleum Plant (BOZ), doesn't make right now. But some experts said it might also be for making HMX 💥, another strong explosive that's similar. Strong explosives are the ones that blow up fast and are made to cause a lot of damage.

📍 The BOZ factory is near a city in Siberia called Biysk 🏔️, which is really far away from Moscow 🏙️, about 3,000 kilometers 📏. That means it's probably too far for most of Ukraine's attack drones 🚁 to reach, and those drones have been going after Russia's weapon factories ⚙️.

🛰️ Pictures from space show new buildings and other things being built at the factory, just like the papers said.

🧑‍🔧 Someone who knows about the project and someone who's helping build it, who didn't want their names used, said that a big expansion is happening at BOZ.

🚫 The Russian military didn't answer questions about this. The Kremlin 🏛️ and Sverdlov Plant also didn't want to talk about it, and neither did BOZ.

🏗️ The new factory is supposed to make 6,000 tons of this strong explosive every year, and it was supposed to be finished this year, according to a plan from 2023 📄 that was online but then taken down.

🧑‍🔬 An expert on explosives in Germany, Thomas Klapoetke, said that this is "a huge amount" and "would help Russia's ability to fight."

📦 He said that this amount could be enough to fill the bombs in 1.28 million of Russia's big artillery shells 💣, which are 152 mm wide 📏.

📊 In 2024, Ukraine's military intelligence told reporters that Russia made around 2 million smaller and larger artillery shells, and they also bought about 2.7 million more from North Korea 🇰🇵.

🧪 But an expert from a British security group 🇬🇧, Jack Watling, said that the shells from North Korea are mostly not very good quality.

🗣️ He said that "making more of this strong explosive to put in bombs is important for Russia to keep fighting the war."

🤐 Ukraine's military intelligence didn't want to say anything about Russia's plans for this new factory.

🕵️ SECRET PLANS

📁 The plans are written in lots of papers that the Russian military put online between February 2023 and September 2024, and also by the city of Biysk 🏙️ before a meeting about the environment in October 2024 🌱.

🧾 In these papers, they used a secret code 🕵️, "GOST RV 1376-001-2006," to say what they will be making.

📚 According to a list of codes from the Russian government in 2014, this code means RDX 💥.

🤔 The Russian government department that deals with industries 🏭 didn't want to say if this code still means RDX.

👨‍🔬 But experts said that the details in the new plans look like they're for making RDX or HMX 💥, which can be made similarly. The papers mention areas for making chemicals called urotropine ⚗️ and storing nitric acid 🧪, which are needed for both explosives.

📆 In 2020, the city of Biysk 🏙️ asked people what they thought about a smaller plan for the BOZ factory that openly said they wanted to make 3,000 tons of RDX a year, along with some other explosives.

🚫 Russia's environmental safety group said in 2021 that this plan wasn't good for the environment 🌍, but they didn't give details. However, some of the buildings they talked about in the 2020 plan, like the ones for urotropine ⚗️ and nitric acid 🧪, are also in the new plans.

🔍 Reporters couldn't find out if the environmental group was asked about the current plan. Their media office didn't answer questions 📵, and the city of Biysk said they didn't know anything about the factory.
